Facelift

Objective: To reduce visible signs of aging in the face and neck by improving tone in facial skin and underlying muscle.

A facelift is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures today, and is designed to restore a more youthful and rested appearance to the skin of the face and the underlying muscle. Millions of women and men have discovered the benefits of a facelift. The procedure does not change your basic appearance. Your surgeon may recommend a browlift and/or eyelid surgery in conjunction with a facelift. Additional techniques such as facial implants, BOTOX® injection, and skin resurfacing techniques may also be used to achieve the desired facial rejuvenation.

During Facelift Surgery

During a facelift, the skin and muscles are tightened to approve the appearance of the eyes, cheeks, jowl, and neck. These improvements are achieved by first placing skin incisions hidden around the ear and hairline. Fat may be sculpted or redistributed from the face, jaw, and neckline. The underlying tissue is repositioned and sculpted as well. The skin is then re-draped over the uplifted tissue and the excess skin is trimmed away. If the neck needs tightening, a small incision may also be made under the chin, and excess fat may be removed if needed.

Anesthesia

A facelift is normally performed using general or local anesthesia with sedation.

Recovery

A facelift will result in some swelling and bruising, most of which will be resolved within two weeks. Some discomfort is expected during the first 48 hours, but significant pain is uncommon. Most patients feel confident going out in public within 10 days. The incisions typically heal as inconspicuous scars hidden in the hairline.

Rhinoplasty (Nose)

Objective: To alter the size or shape of the nose and achieve a look that is in balance with the rest of your facial features.

If you're self-conscious about your nose, you might want to consider a rhinoplasty. Rhinoplasty uses a variety of techniques to reshape the nose to be more visually appealing. Depending on your individual characteristics, your doctor will help you decide what might be the right approach to enhance the shape, size, and appearance of your nose, thereby improving your appearance and self-confidence.

During Rhinoplasty Surgery

Rhinoplasty usually takes an hour or two, though complicated procedures may take longer. In a "closed" rhinoplasty, the incisions are made inside the nostrils. Another approach is called an "open" procedure, during which a small incision is made across the columella (the portion of the nose between the nostrils), as well as within the nose. Through these incisions, the surgeon then works on the framework of the bone and cartilage to achieve the desired shape. When the surgery is complete, a splint may be applied to help your nose maintain its new shape. Nasal packs or soft plastic splints also may be placed in your nostrils to stabilize the septum, the dividing wall between the air passages.

Anesthesia

Rhinoplasty is normally performed using general or local anesthesia with sedation.

Recovery

Some bruising and swelling can be expected following surgery, but cold compresses and prescription medication offer effective relief. An external dressing is worn the first week after rhinoplasty. When it is removed, makeup can usually be applied. Stitches and external dressings are removed in about a week, and you can usually return to work or non-strenuous activities shortly thereafter. Over the next several months, there will be a subtle but ongoing remodeling process as your nose continues to become more sculpted and refined.

Forehead Lift

Objective: To reshape the muscles and tissues in the area above the eye.

A forehead lift alters the muscles that control forehead wrinkles and raises the skin of the forehead to create a rejuvenated, more rested facial appearance. If you're concerned about wrinkles in the forehead, drooping eyebrows, and frown lines, you might want to consider a forehead lift.

During Forehead Lift Surgery

During a forehead lift, your hair will be secured in front of and behind the incision area. The surgeon makes an incision starting at or near the ear and running across the top of your head either behind or at the hairline. The forehead skin is lifted up and excess skin is removed, sometimes with part or all of the muscles. The incision is then closed with stitches or metal clips. The incisions are placed in alternate positions if the patient has a receding hairline or is bald or balding.

Our surgeon mainly performs endoscopic forehead lifts, which minimize the scars to a few small incisions, using an endoscope to achieve the desired result. A forehead lift can be performed alone or in conjunction with other facial procedures, such as facelift, eyelid surgery, or rhinoplasty.

Anesthesia

A forehead lift is normally performed using general or local anesthesia with sedation.

Recovery

Protective wrappings are worn home and for the first few days after surgery. Some minor discomfort may be experienced, which can be alleviated with oral pain medication. You may experience numbness as well. Your surgeon may ask you to keep your head elevated the day or two following surgery to keep swelling down. Bruising and swelling will start to disappear in about seven to 10 days. Sutures are usually removed within about 10 to 14 days of surgery. The visible signs of surgery usually vanish within two to three weeks and normal hair growth should return.

We're Affordable!

It is our goal to make our procedures affordable for everyone. Chin Implant

Objective: To improve the contour of an undersized or receding chin.

Chin implant surgery, also referred to as mentoplasty, can help you achieve aesthetic harmony with other facial features. Often, patients only require this simple and effective surgery to achieve their facial beauty goals.

During Chin Implant Surgery

The chin implant is often placed through an incision inside the lower lip. This is to ensure there is no visible scar. Once properly positioned, the implant is sewn into place and the incision is closed. A chin implant can be performed in conjunction with other facial procedures, such as a facelift or rhinoplasty.

Anesthesia

Chin implant surgery is normally performed using general or local anesthesia with sedation.

Recovery

A protective compress or chin strap will be applied to the chin immediately after the surgery to help the implants take hold sufficiently. A liquid diet is required for several days following surgery. Non-strenuous activities, work, or school may be resumed within one week. Swelling should dissipate within three to five days of surgery. Other low-stress activities can be resumed one to two weeks after surgery, though strenuous exercise should be postponed for approximately four weeks.

Ear Pinning

Objective: To reshape or reposition the ear and give it an appearance in proportion with other facial features.

Ear pinning, also known as otoplasty, is usually done on ears that are too large or that protrude from the head. Ear surgery corrects ears that noticeably protrude from the side of the head, repositioning and altering the size of the ears if necessary or desired. The result are ears that are more proportionate to other facial features. Many patients also report an increase in self-esteem following the procedure. Ear pinning surgery can be performed on patients as young as five or six years old.

During Surgery

Through an incision made on the back of the ear, surgical techniques such as cartilage removal and reshaping can be performed to restore normal ear shape. During an ear pinning procedure, the cartilage of the ear is weakened so that it bends into its new shape. At the same time stitches are placed in the cartilage to hold the ear in position until the new shape has formed.

Anesthesia

When performed on children, ear pinning is normally performed using general anesthesia with sedation. When performed on adults, ear pinning is normally performed using local anesthesia with sedation.

Recovery

The ears are usually bandaged for 10 to 14 days, and a headband is worn during sleep for approximately two months. Some minor discomfort will be felt temporarily, but can be alleviated with oral pain medication. Results usually take final shape about 10 to 20 days after surgery. Ear pinning surgery recovery usually requires that patients allow about one month before resuming contact sports.

Eyelid Surgery

Objective: To reduce excess skin, fat, and/or puffiness around the eyes to regain a more rested and youthful appearance.

Many men and women notice the first signs of aging around the eyes. Eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, corrects droopy, puffy, or wrinkled upper and/or lower eyelids by removing excess fat and skin. Eyelid surgery may also be performed to improve visual fields that are impaired by excess upper eyelid skin.

During Eyelid Surgery

During upper eyelid lift surgery, your surgeon will make tiny incisions along the natural lines of your eyelids and remove excess fat and skin. The incision line follows the natural crease of the eyelid, and scars are hidden in the crease when they have healed. When surgery on the lower eyelids is performed, the incision is concealed just below the lower lashes. Excess skin, fat, and muscle are removed through this incision. When necessary, fat beneath the eye can also be redistributed and in some cases the underlying muscle will be tightened.

Depending on the particular concern, patients can choose to have an upper or lower eyelid surgery, or they can combine the two procedures to achieve the desired effect.

Anesthesia

Eyelid surgery is normally performed using local anesthesia with sedation. In some cases, general anesthesia may be used.

Recovery

Eyelid surgery typically causes minimal discomfort. After eyelid surgery, some swelling and bruising is expected, but it can be diminished by using ice packs. Most swelling will resolve within two weeks. Sutures are usually removed within four to six days of surgery, at which time the use of eye makeup may resume. Some sensitivity to light will be experienced after the surgery. This sensitivity should also fade over the course of a week or two. Patients who wear contact lenses can usually return to using them approximately seven to 10 days after surgery depending on personal comfort level.

We're Affordable!

It is our goal to make our procedures affordable for everyone. In certain cases upper eyelid surgery is a covered expense under health insurance. Normally, an eye exam is required to determine this. We accept most major health insurance carriers, and we offer a variety of financing plans to fit your budget.

Neck Lift

Objective: To make the neck area appear more youthful by eliminating excess fat and skin.

By removing excess fat and skin around the neck and under the chin, and tightening the muscles in that area, a neck lift rejuvenates the lower portion of the face. The saggy layers of skin and concentrated areas of fat are lifted and smoothed, creating a more attractive, youthful, and better defined neck and facial contour.

During Neck Lift Surgery

During neck lift surgery, the doctor makes tiny incisions directly below the chin and around the ears. Fat cells are suctioned or directly excised, muscles are tightened, and a small amount of skin may be removed. The extent of the surgery will depend on the individual patient's needs. A neck lift is often performed in conjunction with a facelift and/or liposuction.

Anesthesia

A neck lift is normally performed using general or local anesthesia with sedation.

Recovery

Following a neck lift, a neck sling or other protective wrapping is worn for a short period after surgery. For the first 24 to 48 hours, you will mostly be in bed resting. Recovery from bruising and swelling usually takes a couple weeks, but there is little pain or discomfort. Most patients are quite "presentable" within one to two weeks.

Results slowly form and final neck contours usually develop one to three months after surgery. You will be allowed to resume athletic activities approximately three weeks after surgery.

Lip Augmentation

Objective: To make lips appear fuller and more youthful.

Lip augmentation procedures increase the size of the lips to make them fuller and more attractive. The upper or lower lip may be treated separately or at the same time. Lip augmentations have become increasingly popular in recent years.

During Lip Augmentation

Injections involve filling the lip with a soft substance to create a fuller appearance. At our practice we use the collagen replacement fillers Cosmoderm® and Cosmoplast®, the hyaluronic acid filler Hylaform®, and fat injections to enhance the lips. Cosmoderm®, Cosmoplast®, or Hylaform® are injected into the lip with a small needle. Because the body slowly absorbs these safe materials, the results generally last between six and seven months. The procedure may be repeated as needed. When fat is injected, it is harvested from another area of the body -- most often the abdomen or the inner thighs. The fat is purified before being injected into the lips.

Anesthesia

Lip augmentation is normally performed using local anesthesia with light sedation. Topical anesthesia may be used before lip injections so that the procedure involves minimal discomfort.

Recovery

Your lips will remain swollen for a few hours after lip augmentation. You will be able to return to normal activities the same day. Cold compresses should be used for 48 hours to control swelling and oral pain medications may be used to control discomfort. Touch-up treatments may be required to achieve the desired result.

We're Affordable!

It is our goal to make our procedures affordable for everyone. In general, lip augmentation is considered a cosmetic procedure and is not covered by health insurance. We offer financing with Wells Fargo and Tennessee Valley Federal Credit Union.
